LAMS and Moodle made easy animations

Given the feedback we have received from LAMS and Moodle users on the integration, the LAMS Foundation has produced short animations on key features of the integration to make it even easier for LAMS practitioners and Moodlers to get the best out of both.

Many thanks to Josep, Anders, Dirk, Ralf for their feedback to improving this integration.

LAMS and Moodle integration ready for testing!!

The LAMS and Moodle integration is ready for testing. If you would like to provide feedback for this integration and be part of the betatesters, please register here and we'll create an account for you in our Moodle servers and get you started right away.

The integration code will be released with Moodle 1.6 and will be checked into Moodle's CVS once the beta testing is over. The more testers we have, the fastest the process will be, so please sign up as a beta-tester.

FAQ

When will be the implementation released? Updated

We estimate that it will take us about a month (give and take a week) to finalize the integration. There are still some pending issues to work out. The integration work should be completed internally by the end of June, and then following testing, it will be made freely available by the end of July.

Update: although all the functionality is there to be released, issues that have to do with single-sign-on between LAMS and Moodle are still to be tested. That is when a user comes from Moodle to LAMS, the user will be automatically authenticated in LAMS without being shown the login page. There are quite a few frameworks already in place to achieve this, but since we have a requirement to make this 'as simple as possible' for a non-technical person to do, we have to resort to other alternatives and create our own home-brewed. Given this extra work, we will be releasing a beta version of the Moodle-LAMS module at around mid September 2005.

Would I be able to run LAMS and Moodle on the same server?

It depends on your system setup. You could run LAMS and Moodle in the same server using different ports. However, if you are using Apache, it is feasible to run both LAMS and Moodle on the same port. Further information will be provided when the integration is released.

Ok, I'm a Moodle user and know how it works, but I'm new to LAMS: where can I start?

You can start at the LAMS Documentation page. See the Introduction to LAMS (a short Flash animation). Once you understand the concept of LAMS, the Getting Started Guide and the Teacher's Guide can be of great help to see the pedagogical activities and modules that LAMS offers. In addition,

What are the requirements for using LAMS?

For teachers and learners, since LAMS is a web based application, all you need is a browser with Flash Player version 7. The supported browsers are: Internet Explorer 5+, Firefox 1 and Safari 1.2+ on Windows 2000/XP, Mac OS X 1.2 or above and Linux.

If you want to know the requirements to run a LAMS server, please see the LAMS Installers Guides for specifications depending on the platform.
